Youth Development: Supporting the Resilient Child

Presented by Stephanie Tucker

Resilience in youth is not about avoiding stress or shielding children from challenges, it is about equipping them with the tools, relationships, and confidence in navigating life’s difficulties in healthy and adaptive ways. In today’s world, many young people face increasing levels of stress and anxiety, often without fully developed coping skills or emotional support systems. Supporting the resilient child means recognizing the impact of stress on developing minds and bodies, while intentionally fostering environments that build emotional safety, self-awareness, and confidence. When caregivers and communities provide consistent support, model healthy coping strategies, and create space for open communication, children learn that challenges are manageable and that they are capable of overcoming them. This session explores how resilience is cultivated through connection, encouragement, and practical skill-building, empowering caregivers to help youth strengthen confidence, regulate emotions, and grow through adversity rather than be defined by it.
