From Surviving to Leading: Turning Lived Experience into Advocacy Power
DREAAM: Driven To Reach Excellence and Academic Achievement for Males
This interactive workshop will be led by the DREAAM Parent Leadership Cohort who are drawing directly from their own lived experience navigating schools, behavioral health, and other child-serving systems. In this session, parent leaders will share how they found their voice and what helped them move from feeling stuck to taking action. Participants will learn a simple, practical advocacy framework: (1) Clarify the issue; (2) Know your right; (3) Prepare your ask; (4) and Follow up with confidence. Caregivers will learn grounding and mindfulness techniques that can help regulate emotions during stressful meetings or difficult conversations. Parents will learn to reframe situations instead of reacting from frustration or fear. When parents feel grounded and confident, they are more effective advocates for their children and their communities.
